The Marder I (Sd.Kfz 135) was a German tank destroyer of World War II. The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1942, and series production lasted from 1942 to 1944, culminating in the production of approximately 170 vehicles. The Marder I was powered by a single 70 hp Dela-Haye 103TT engine. Its armament consisted of one 76.2 mm PaK 36 (r) gun or one 75 mm PaK 40 gun (Sd. Kfz. 138) and one 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun.
The Marder I was developed as a result of the Wehrmacht's disastrous experiences during Operation Barbarossa (1941) in destroying Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks. During this campaign, the need arose to provide front-line units with an effective tank destroyer. To minimize testing and production time, the Marder I was primarily developed on the chassis of a captured French Tracteur Blinde Lorraine 37L artillery tractor, with smaller use of Hotchkiss H-39 or FCM-36 tank chassis. The result was a vehicle with a low curb weight (around 8-8.5 tons), good mobility, and good armament, but very weak armor, reaching only 12 mm! The Marder I's combat debut took place in late summer 1942 on the Eastern Front. In the period 1942-1943 this type of weapon served on the Eastern Front, but later – due to shortages of spare parts and the development of Soviet armored vehicles – it was sent to France, where it served until 1944-1945.
The 1:35 scale model includes plastic parts, metal parts, decals, and assembly instructions. Paints and glue not included.
