Historia i cechy samolotu Fairey Gannet:
The Fairey Gannet is a British carrier-based aircraft designed and manufactured by Fairey Aviation Company. It was the first fixed-wing aircraft to combine search and destroy capabilities for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations for the Royal Navy. The Gannet was developed in response to a World War II requirement for an aircraft capable of performing dual ASW and strike roles.
The aircraft featured a unique Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba propulsion system, consisting of two gas turbines mounted side-by-side, driving contra-rotating propellers. This arrangement allowed the Gannet to operate from aircraft carriers, and its wings could fold in a distinctive manner for easy on-board storage.
The Gannet was equipped with advanced electronic detection systems that allowed it to locate and attack submarines both on the surface and underwater. Its armament included bombs, depth charges, missiles, and acoustic torpedoes.
The Fairey Gannet entered service in 1954 and was used by the Royal Navy on most aircraft carriers during the Cold War. The aircraft also found export customers, including the navies of Australia, Germany, and Indonesia. In the 1960s, the Royal Navy began replacing Gannets with helicopters, and some were converted to other roles, such as electronic warfare platforms and carrier-based supply transport.
This kit requires self-assembly and painting. Paints and glue are not included. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including pliers, files, and tweezers), paints, brushes, and glue for plastic models (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
