The North American P-51 Mustang is considered one of the iconic American fighters of World War II. Designed to meet RAF specifications, the Mustang was transformed with the installation of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine. The P-51D's long range and superior firepower made it an excellent escort fighter, capable of protecting bombers all the way to Berlin and back. The P-51 is noted as the most effective Allied fighter during the war, with 4,950 enemy aircraft destroyed. After the war, the P-51D served in Korea and was used by the air forces of some South American countries until the early 1980s. Safety Warning WARNING: Not suitable for children under 36 months.
